“Freeman! They come!”Or what was cut out of Half-Life? (Part 1. Cut up the plot and part of the enemies)
So far, on the Internet, everyone is analyzing the Half-Life 3 script and give a low rating of Dota 2, I decided to delve into the origins, namely in the original 1998 Half-Life. The game is almost 20 years! But still played well, for me personally and my friends. So that ladies and gentlemen, sit down in “Delorean”, We go into the past!
This topic is not created for ardent fans of the game who know about all moments carved from the game. Pleasant reading!
Initially, the plot of the game was generally told about another. She was supposed to be a game interpretation of Stephen King’s book “It” “Fog” and was not particularly different from “Quake II”. The name was by the way “QUIVER”, and about all this information (what I am talking about and I will say in future articles) you can read in “Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar”.
This book tells how the main Valve series was created until 2004.
For the first time, the alpha www.spin-palace.uk version (which we will talk about today) was released on September 8, 1997, but appeared on the network only 2013, since it was at this time that they began to actively sell discs with this version and just at that moment it was sold at 709 dollars.
The original plot of Alpha:
The portal device was built in a rocket bunker. So far, no one has ventured to go through the portal, since strange creatures penetrate from this portal in a continuous stream into our world. Monsters are everywhere, and your colleagues die like flies. You head the detachment on the surface, but ordinary routes were very dangerous due to monsters. Safety forces are looking for guilty in all this and blame scientists in this, that is, you.
You find a device that can solve the fate of mankind, and you penetrate the foreign world to resist the monsters, destroy the main boss, and the game ends with this.
At that time, instead of Gordon, Freeman was an Aivan Cosmobiker, and as for me, it’s good that they changed the character … otherwise my nightmares would look like this:.
Next, we will go to the enemies of this version (as well as about those who did not go further than the concept of art):
1) Sergeant Hecu. This is a black infantryman with a minigan (M134), which was supposed to coordinate the detachment and EVEN give orders on the radio. With a detailed look at the model, you can notice a cigarette in the teeth, just like Bill in “Left 4 Dead”. As described in “Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar”, The sergeant was supposed to have a diverse arsenal (M60 with a grenade launcher), and they also found a knife in the files, most likely the sergeant had to beat with a knife, in case of close contact with the enemy.
Concept art and screenshot:
2) panthey (in “Diablo” files). A creature from the Zen by habits behaves like a panther (I think this is why everyone understood). Has one eye and red skin, in size similar to a large cat. In alpha can only be found in the test rooms, but there it is blue and shown only a couple of animations. Initially had to be in “QUIVER” (There it was called “Sound Dog”. Later this name passed to Hounday). The creature had to bring down the victim on the earth and somehow attack it with the help of the mouth and beige language located behind the chin, blocking the victim with its paws. And also Pantheye was supposed to: crawl not noticeable, apply damage to the tail, quickly run and torment the victim with claws.
Concept and screenshots:
3) Robot Podkhotinets. Initially, in a very distant alpha, Hecu should have fought … robots, but these characters remained only in the German version and as a model for multiplayer.
In appearance, they rather resembled a soldier who removed the lower part of the body (from ancient alpha), and in German rather armored costumes. First there is a screenshot from Alpha (it is clear that the interface is different, but we will talk about it later), and then from the German version:
4) an unidentified alien from Quiver. Yes, yes. Not all cut things have found their exact purpose even after years. He looks more like a peaceful alien, but looking at the orange process on his back, it is possible that this is a weapon (throwing). Written about him only in “Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar”. Concept Art:
5) Sphiar. A gun or creature is not clear what it is. There is only a model. It was supposed to be a kind of gun around which there are two halves of the sphere. Name Dali thanks to the name of the file. However … I am embarrassed by his model, because the game was planned at one time for 12-tsati or 14-year-old audience. ) Model:
Then it will be more interesting: 3) other human enemies, old interfaces with locations and so on. Wait :).
I took all the information from Russian and foreign wiki.
